Big Papi's Kitchen

Growing up in the Dominican Republic, I was raised on the fresh, flavorful tastes of Latin cuisine. In my home of Boston, I still remain loyal to these Latin roots and the memories of my native Dominican Republic. With Big Papi’s Kitchen, I can share those great tasting memories while also supporting the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, raising funds that provide access to children in the Dominican Republic and the Northeastern United States to the critical pediatric care they need to live full, productive lives.

What's Cooking in the Kitchen

BOSTON, MA (March 17, 2015) – David Ortiz, 3-time World Series Champion and designated hitter of the Boston Red Sox, Radegen Sports Management, and Big Papi’s Kitchen are proud to announce the addition of Frank Cimler to the team. Cimler, a corporate attorney, has been a consultant to various publicly traded and private entities such as record labels, publishing companies and celebrity rights management companies. Additionally, Cimler has also represented prominent celebrities and public figures. Most recently, Cimler has led the growth of Joey Kramer’s Rockin’ & Roastin’ Coffee brand. Launched in 2011, David Ortiz started Big Papi’s Kitchen to share the flavors of his native Dominican Republic while honoring the cooking of his late mother. Available in select retail locations in New England and online, Big Papi’s Kitchen currently features fresh salsa, snack sticks, and chicken sausage. A portion of the proceeds also benefit the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, which provides access to children in the Dominican Republic and the Northeastern United States to the critical pediatric care they need to live full, productive lives. “David and I are excited to bring on Frank and his expertise,” says Alex Radetsky, President of Radegen Sports Management and Chairman of Big Papi’s Kitchen. “David is eager to put the final ingredient into Big Papi’s Kitchen.” With this new partnership, Big Papi’s Kitchen is about to step up their game, with some exciting announcements in the next few weeks. One morning in February 2005, at the suggestion of his friends and family, David Ortiz went to CEDIMAT Hospital to visit children who had recently received life-saving heart care operations. David was hoping he could help put a smile on the faces of these young children, and help them to forget their troubles for a moment.   The children he was visiting had all received heart surgery through the work of Heartcare Dominicana, an NGO in the Dominican Republic, which routinely joined forces with U.S. based not-for-profits such as International Hospital for Children, to train local medical personnel to provide much needed operations to native children in need.   As David walked through the Intensive Care Unit, he saw children who reminded him of himself in his youth. They should have been out playing in the ball fields, not fighting health problems. He spoke to the kids and their parents and was amazed by their resilience. When he reached the last bed, he saw a two-year old boy who was recovering from surgery and crying into the arms of his mother. David’s own son was the same age, and, thank God, healthy. This boy looked so fragile, so small. David was overwhelmed. He left the hospital that day tearfully uttering his desire, his need, to do something for these children. He made a promise that he would help them somehow. Learn more about the start of the David Ortiz Children Fund.
